FAQs

PA-EX

Q.  Can the PA-EX be used in high seismic areas?

A: The Connect-EZ EX Satisfies Seismic Design Capacities (SDC) “A” through “F”.  The Torq-Cut is qualified for all Seismic Design Categories, i.e., A – F in uncracked concrete. For a cracked concrete application, please utilize threaded rod and epoxy. Threaded rod diameter and length to be specified by the Engineer of Record.

Q: How tightly can the PA-EX and PA-12&18 be spaced and still obtain design values?

A: We recommend 14” from center to center of each PA-12 and PA-18 devices and 24” minimum spacing between PA-EXs.

Q: Minimum edge distance from tilt panel for PA-EX and PA-12&18?

A: We recommend 7” edge distance from panel edge to center of PA-12 &-18 And 12” for the PA -EX.

Q: Website indicates “Provided with threaded rod (but not the epoxy) but the specs indicate a 5/8”x 12 ½” Simpson Tor Cut Anchor to be used. Testing appears to have occurred with the Torq Cut. Can either be used in Seismic Design Category D?

A: The Torq-Cut is qualified for all Seismic Design Categories, i.e., A – F in uncracked concrete. For a cracked concrete application, please utilize threaded rod and epoxy. Threaded rod diameter and length to be specified by the Engineer of Record.

Q: Is a minimum length of 12 ½” anchor required?  Are anchors limited to 5/8” diameter only?

A: The Torq-Cut is only manufactured as 5/8” x 12-1/2”. The threaded rod must be 3/4” x EOR specified length.

PA-12 & PA-18

Q: Where did testing failure occur, in the product itself or in the anchors? Are the anchor capacities always the limiting factor in both tension and shear?

A: In the tension tests the PA -12, 18 and EX all yielded first with no evidence of the concrete anchors moving. The loading was stopped immediately when the devices exhibited distress. Thus it was a ductile failure which is desirable.

IMPORTANT! In all of the shear tests there was no grout between panel and foundation. The shear loading was limited to the published shear capacity of the anchor (10,000 lbs). At that loading there was evidence of the concrete anchors bending and loading was stopped. There was no evidence of distress in any of the devices.

Q: Can the PA-12 and/or PA-18 be used in high seismic areas?

A: The Connect-EZ PA-12 and PA-12 Satisfies Seismic Design Capacities (SDC) “A” through “F”.  The Titen HD is qualified for all Seismic Design Categories, i.e. A – F in uncracked concrete.  For a cracked concrete application, please utilize threaded rod and epoxy.  Threaded rod diameter and length to be specified by the Engineer of Record.

Q: Specs on the website indicate Threaded Rod and Epoxy should be used in SDC “D” PA-12&18. On a previous project we were instructed that the Torq-cut bolt is stronger than the threaded rod and should therefore be used. This seems to be conflicting information. We originally had threaded rod and epoxy specified.

A: The Titen HD is qualified for all Seismic Design Categories, i.e. A – F in uncracked concrete.  For a cracked concrete application, please utilize threaded rod and epoxy.  Threaded rod diameter and length to be specified by the Engineer of Record. Threaded rod and epoxy should be used in Seismic Zones “C” and higher. The Torq-Cut is qualified for all Seismic Design Categories, i.e., A – F in uncracked concrete. For a cracked concrete application, please utilize threaded rod and epoxy. Threaded rod diameter and length to be specified by the Engineer of Record.

Q: Website indicates ¾”x10” Titen HD anchors are supplied with the product, yet the specification requires threaded rod for Seismic Design Category D and F. Is there an option to provide either

A: Connect-EZ supplies the threaded rod when the Seismic zone requires (“C” of higher). We depend on the EOR to specify the length of the threaded rod. Threaded rods are suitable in all Seismic zones but contractors much prefer the Titen anchors whenever and wherever possible.

Q: Minimum length of threaded rod required? If length of rod is to be determined by EOR will EZ-Connect supply the rods regardless of the length required?

A: Yes

Q: Are anchors limited to ¾” diameter only?

A: Yes, however, exceptions could be made but would require a different hole size in the PA base plate at an extra charge.

V Chamber

Q: What happens if the V Chamber gets mislocated?

A: See this diagram for remedies
